Ugo Guidi, Bust of a man (1954)
plaster
Rome, Galleria Nazionale di Arte Moderna
This is a "classical" Guidi and it seems that the sculptor wants to study the ancient roman portraits, but it is not so, there are some details that "betray" his personal and intimate style.
The
Bust of a man represents an apuan man tired after a hard work. Anyway his expression is solemn and no emotion is visible, but his face is bony, his forehead is wide, the nose is big and is not proportioned to the other particulars of the face. The details that make the
Bust of a man an original creation are the rough-hewed hair (as those of the
Adolescent) and the ears, not well definite.
