Ugo Guidi, Stella (1954)
terracotta, h. 35x22x25 cm
Forte dei Marmi, Museo Ugo Guidi
Stella is a farmer from Versilia: so she is not a woman who we can define "good-looking" according to the traditional canons. The face is round and chubby, typical of a woman who is accustomed to work in the fields. The mouth reveals a smile, so the woman seems to be quite happy. The hairstyle of Stella is a ponytail, because loose hair could disturb the woman while she is working.
Moreover, there are not earrings, necklaces, nor any tipe of spangle or trinket becasue Guidi wants to represent the roughness of the farmers' life.
