Ugo Guidi, The Piglet (1944)
marble, h. 55 cm
Forte dei Marmi (LU), Museo Ugo Guidi
The
Piglet was sculpted just two years after the
Little Goat, so it bears with the same artistic intentions: to represent a true and real animal, following the traditional canons.
It is signifcant that Guidi chooses to represent another meek and humble animal as the
Little Goat sculpted in 1942 and the sheep sculpted in the Fifties.
This choose reflects the sculptor's temper: shy and reserved. Anyway the animal is very realistic, the marble is well polished and it symbolizes very well the tenderness of the animal's body. The basement, as that of the
Little Goat, is in raw marble, so the Piglet is a bit projected out from reality: this brings forward the more primitive and intimate study that will characterize the production by Ugo Guidi in the next years.
