Ugo Guidi, Figures at the seaside (1969)
Indian ink, 35,5x50,2 cm
Forte dei Marmi, Museo Ugo Guidi
With this drawing we see a production whichi is independent from sculpture, and a sculptor who find in his drawings a way to express his ideas and his studies looking for a great formal purity respecting the subject.
In this drawing we can see a nice scene, typical of a summerday in Versilia. Ugo Guidi lived in Vittoria Apuana, which is very near to the sea, so he knew very well these subjects.
.
Two woman are sat on the sand: behind them, a line symbolizes the sea. The first woman looks at the other smiling and bringing her arms in front of her breast. The body is covered by a suimsuit, realized with few signs. The second woman is a bit sad, and observes her breast and her belly: we can think that she is mourning because her body is not that she had when she was young! Moreover, she is indicating her thigh, a very meaningful gesture. Her friend is robust but more "athletic".
