stone, h. 72x44x22 cm
Forte dei Marmi, Museo Ugo Guidi
Second work from the crafts series, the
Shearer represents a man shearing a sheep. The man, of whom we do not know the expression, is bent on the sheep while keeping its muzzle motionless with a hand and shearing the animal with the other. With his back, the man describes a half-circle closed by his left arm and by the sheep's neck, which is strechted to close the circle. The head of the shearer is bent on the animal: the man is very concentrated to his activity.
The body is nevertheless very robust, to express the tiring craft: he is a shearer, so a shepherd: Ugo Guidi knew very well shepherds, because today is still possible observe shepherds with their flocks in the country zone in Versilia.
