Ugo Guidi, Quartered ox (1962)

terracotta, h. 45x32x31 cm
Forte dei Marmi, Museo Ugo Guidi

If it does not belong to the 1954 series and it is not in stone but in terracotta, the work has been insertend in this room because it represents a butcher with a quartered ox. This work makes again the shy temper of Ugo Guidi evident: the author is not interested in a realistic representation of a cruel situation such as that of a butcher hanging his animal. Guidi does not want the animal's particulars to be evident: the ox is a heap of shapes, of lights and shadows that originates from the faces of a composition starting from the arm of the butcher and arriving to the grownd, capturing the observer with his dazzles and shadows.
