The 1976
Cyclist is one of the latest works by Guidi, and even one of the most famous and interesting. This is a terracotta, and comparing it to the 1959 realization we can notice a lot of differences. Some art critic such as Marzio Dall'Acqua noticed that the 1976
Cyclist is a futurist experimentation. This sculpture reminds some realizations of Boccioni, which was interested in studying the movement.
And the movement is present in this work by Guidi: the wheels of the bycicle (which now is present) and the legs of the athlete are structured to give the observer the sensation that the cyclist is fastly cygling. The position of the athlete increases this feeling: he is looking down, is bent and his back is very arched. This particular reminds the 1959 realization: Guidi wants again to represent the toil of the athlet but without defining his expression, symbolizing again the absolute value of cycling and of sport.
