Ugo Guidi, Bride (1965)

terracotta, h. 42x17x17 cm
Forte dei Marmi, Museo Ugo Guidi

One of the most important values for Guidi was family: in 1940 married Giuliana Iacometti who gave him two sons, Vittorio in 1944 and Fabrizio in 1952.The bride sculpted in 1965 is a homage to the marriage, but for Guidi the marriage is not celebrated with a luxurious wedding: it is a simple ceremony as we can see looking at the wedding dress. The bride's wedding dress is very simple, with some frills that do not break the umility of the figure, but emphasize it. The hairstyle is quite refined, there are some decorations on the breast and on the stomach (but the dress in the other parts is without frills), the train is accompanied by woman's hands.
In 1965 Guidi's reflection on woman is already started and it is mature: in the same year he actually sculpted one of the first works where the main theme is motherhood.
