Ugo Guidi, The bride (1973)
terracotta, h. 20x19x11 cm
Forte dei Marmi, Museo Ugo Guidi
This work reminds the
Bride sculpted in 1965, but now this realization is more refined. First of all, now the bride is not alone but near her there are two figures, maybe two friends or two bridesmaids (even though they are as tall as the bride).
The body of the woman has even changed: this bride has a more athletic body compared to the 1965 bride, her breast is more buxom, the waist and the hips are more "feminine". The sculptor has decided to make the characteristic signs of the woman evident. The wedding dress itself is a quite different: it has lost every frill becoming more severe but more elegant. The bride is looking in front of her and her companions look in the same direction: they are clothed themselves with few decorations.
