Ugo Guidi, Motherhood (1970)

wood, h. 55,5x25x35 cm
Forte dei Marmi, Museo Ugo Guidi

This time the theme of motherhood is described in a different way. This work, realized in wood, does not represent a pregnant woman but a mother, and we notice this because in the composition we can see the child, who is hugging his mother. There are not other details: only the faces of the two protagonist, for a very intimate and touching composition, which reminds some solutions of the Romanesque art, that is often present in the works by Ugo Guidi.
The pose in fact reminds that of the "Madonne con Bambino" (Holy Mary with Child Jesus) sculpted in Tuscany during Middle Ages: Ugo Guidi knew very well these works.
