Ugo Guidi, Motherhood (1971)

terracotta, h. 34,5x19x18 cm
Forte dei Marmi, Museo Ugo Guidi

This 1971 Motherhood is a very remarkable work. Ugo Guidi describes again the theme of motherhood representing a mother with his child, in a singular way. The mother is sat and the child is in front of her, and she seems to push the child in front of her to offer him to the observer. The masses are very solid and the composition is dominated by an absolute symmetry.
The bodies do not have anatomic connotations but are only definite in their outlines and in their face expressions. Moreover, it is one of the latest works by Guidi describing the theme of motherhood. In fact in the five latest year of his life, Guidi will love very much the totem and the horse/rider, but also the 1976-77 dramatic works.
