Pietro Tacca, Rampant horse (1615)

bronze, h. 63 cm
Florence, Museo Nazionale del Bargello

Pietro Tacca is again in this virtual exhibition, with his Rampant horse realized in 1615 and conserved in the Museo del Bargello.
The rampant horse by Tacca is a "model": the sculptor from Carrara was able to realize equestrian monuments for the European kings. The studies of Tacca, one of the most important Baroque sculptors, wanted to find a way to realize a sculpture representing a horse in the corvette position, that is to say raised on his posterior legs. Even Leonardo tried to reach this aim, failing: Tacca was the first reaching it and this Rampant horse is a model of the equestrian monument for Felipe IV of Spain, realized in 1640 and today visible in the Plaza de Oriente in Madrid.
