The totem figures by Ugo Guidi are inspired by a personal study so the interpretation of them is very difficult. This is even because the relationship with the material belongs only to the artist who models the clay or the marble or casts the bronze according to his ideas.
This happens in these works by Guidi. The 1974 Totem figure is characterized by an extreme "geometricity". And even though in some similar realizations we can see eyes, mouths or details reminding anatomic particulars, this work becomes pure and geometric shape, but very strong because is an anticipation of the Wounded figure, an incredible creation realized in the same year.
