Ugo Guidi, Horse and rider (1971)
terracotta, h. 50,5x46x19 cm
Forte dei Marmi, Museo Ugo Guidi
Between the "horse and rider" realizations, this is one of the most abstract, even though there is a great respect towards the subject. Neither in the latest works by Guidi the horse and the rider become so solid and so united: they are two rectangular masses, without useless details. We do not know where the horse starts and where the rider finishes, because the relationship between the two entities is so strong.
They are two regular and severe blocks: only the horse has got a rough-hewed muzzle and a curve which let us think to the legs, while the rider is a pure form. This is a very primitive work.
